CAP/ADID is requesting your immediate assistance in contacting Atlanta City Council members via letter, e-mail or by phone about commercial solicitation legislation to be addressed on Monday, June 20. We encourage you to share your thoughts at this important time with the Atlanta City Council.

A draft message is included below, as are e-mail addresses, phone numbers and a map of each district for all City Council members.

The Council meeting addressing this issue will be on Monday, June 20, 2005 at 1 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 2nd floor at City Hall, 55 Trinity Avenue.

Atlanta City Council members need to hear from as many people as possible urging the passage of this critical legislation by Monday, but preferably this week.

Please send a letter, email or call to voice your opinion to City Council members urging their support of the legislation for the entire City and Downtown. If you feel comfortable with your employees making contact, please urge them to do so.

Draft copy (letter or e-mail):

The Honorable (Council member name)
Atlanta City Council member
55 Trinity Avenue SW
Suite 2900
Atlanta, GA 30303

Dear Council member __________:

Passage of the commercial solicitation legislation that will be addressed on Monday, June 20 is critical to the economic future of Downtown and the entire City.

Today we are losing businesses, residents and conventions because of the impact that vocational panhandlers are having on the environment in Downtown.

As someone whose business and employees are impacted by commercial solicitation/panhandling, I ask for your affirmative vote to enact this legislation.

The legislation is sound, sensible and well thought-out providing assistance to those in need and penalties for those who regularly prey on our visitors, employees, residents and students for their commercial gain.

Sincerely,

Council contacts/e-mail/phone:
