Excerpts from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Metro Section:
The "Blue
Loop" route is designed to divert traffic from Peachtree Street and
onto outlying roads. It goes into effect Thursday afternoon in anticipation
of huge crowds at Piedmont Park.
The Blue Loop would reroute traffic along a 15.5-mile path through Downtown, Midtown and Buckhead. It would also limit access to Peachtree Street -- from Mitchell Street Downtown to 14th Street in Midtown -- to residents with permits, taxis, workers on business, hotel guests and emergency vehicles.
Neighborhood groups, hotels and businesses are developing special passes for people who have to drive on the restricted parts of Peachtree Street.
The loop extends from Mitchell Street east to Piedmont Avenue north, then west on Habersham Road, and south on Roswell Road. The route continues down Roswell to Peachtree Street, splits off onto Spring Street and continues south back to Mitchell.
