August 25-29. “Five Ways in Five Days”. As part of “Let’s
Do Downtown”, the Downtown TMA will be highlighting five transportation
alternatives in Woodruff Park from noon until 1 p.m. Each day, the Downtown
TMA will be raffling off prizes and promoting commute options into the
Downtown area.
If you are currently driving alone to Downtown, and have grown tired
of being stuck in traffic on your way to work, join us as we help you
find a better alternative.
On
Monday, Let’s Carpool Downtown! Ever wondered what
it would be like to ride in a vanpool or carpool to work? Join us
on Monday as we have carpoolers and vanpoolers relaying their experiences
about their commute to work in a vanpool or carpool. We will even
help you find a carpool partner! Representatives from Commute Connections
will be on hand to assist you with finding a carpool partner. Register
for our Super$ize Carpool Reward Program, offering free BP gas cards
($25.00-$75.00 depending on the number in carpool) during Smog Season
to eligible carpools. Step inside a van and see how employees from
Turner Broadcasting System, Georgia Power and Georgia Pacific arrive
to work each day Downtown. Register for free BP gas for a year if
you are currently carpooling or begin carpooling Downtown. Other prizes
will be raffled off just for stopping by and receiving information
on carpooling and vanpooling. |

On Tuesday, Let’s Mass Transit Downtown! Representatives
from the metro Atlanta transit agencies will be available to steer
you into taking transit to Downtown. Tour a bus on display. Considering
giving MARTA a try? Leave your contact information with the Downtown
TMA and we will send you two FREE MARTA tokens as an incentive to
try MARTA, compliments of the Downtown TMA during our “Try
It Day” event in Woodruff Park. Register for great prizes
to be given away including transit cards, MARTA t-shirts, and mini
radios with headphones for your commute to work on transit |
On
Wednesday, Let’s Walk Downtown! Ever wonder who has
the right of way when a motorist meets a pedestrian in the road? PEDS
(Pedestrians Education Drivers about Safety) will be conducting a
seminar in the park to educate you on what you need to know as a motorist
and a pedestrian. Learn about the health benefits of walking. Register
for a guided walking tour of Historic Atlanta with the Atlanta Preservation
Center, or plan on joining us Downtown for the next Turner First Thursdays.
Turner First Thursdays is a self guided walking tour of Downtown’s
art galleries offered the first Thursday of each month from 5 to 9
p.m. Register for great prizes including pedometers to track your
steps (and your calories!), whistles, and gift certificates for a
pair of walking shoes! |

On Thursday, Let’s Drive Smart Downtown! If you must
own a car, how about considering purchasing a hybrid? Learn about
environmentally advanced hybrids, with lower emissions ratings to
help improve our air quality by reducing smog-forming emissions. Sit
behind the wheel of a hybrid and imagine yourself doing your part
to improve the air quality of the metro Atlanta area. Hear about tax
deductions from the IRS to purchasers of hybrid vehicles. Prizes will
also be awarded, but don’t expect a hybrid to be among the prizes!

Friday, Let’s Bike Downtown! Sign up for a free Effective
Cycling class, the only course using nationally certified instructors
and on-the-road training to teach cyclists how to ride safely in all
conditions. Watch the Atlanta Bicycle Campaign demonstrate some safe
riding tips, even in Downtown traffic. Learn where newly installed
bicycle racks are located Downtown so you know where to park your
bike when you commute to work or class. Speak with Gold’s Gym
about free showers to bikers, compliments of Gold’s Gym and
the Downtown Transportation Management Association. Register for great
raffle prizes, including bike patch kits, water bottles, and a gift
certificate for bike equipment! |
