NASCAR Hall of Fame

Atlanta NASCAR Hall of Fame and Experience Attraction
Proposal Fact Sheet

Atlanta should know by the end of 2005 whether it will be home for NASCAR’s future Hall of Fame. www.halloffameatlanta.com

Five cities submitted bids for the Hall by the May 31 deadline. Atlanta’s competitors are Richmond, VA, Daytona Beach, FL, Charlotte, NC, and Kansas City, KS.

An Atlanta NASCAR Hall of Fame Organizing Committee was formed to put together a bid package for Atlanta in response to the RFP received from NASCAR. The committee is chaired by Scott Wilfong of SunTrust Bank, Atlanta and Mark Lazarus of Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. NASCAR legend Bill Elliott is the Honorary Chair of the Committee.

The Atlanta Organizing Committee includes representatives from the State of Georgia, City of Atlanta, Fulton County, Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau, Central Atlanta Progress and key members of Atlanta's business and sports community who have an interest in the NASCAR attraction.

In accordance with NASCAR's directions, the Atlanta Organizing Committee has released few details about Atlanta’s bid, but has confirmed that the bid will be very competitive. A site in Downtown Atlanta has been selected, exterior and interior architectural plans have been developed, and financial and marketing plans have been prepared.

The exhibits and Hall of Fame component will be very interactive, engaging and family-friendly.

The Atlanta design team is highly accomplished. The team is led by E. Verner Johnson & Associates, and includes PGAV, AAD Fitch, Concentrics Hospitality, Laura Heery and Dan Lipson. Deloitte Consulting LLP assisted the Organizing Committee with financial feasibility and economic impact research. The Championship Group and McRae Communications assisted with marketing and public relations. Turner Broadcasting and Georgia Tech's Imagine Lab assisted with presentation materials.
